Dreamcatcher
As the legend goes, the Dream catcher was used by the Woodland Indians and was hung in the lodge (near the bedroom window). Its use was to catch all dreams, good or bad. The bad dreams would get caught up in the webbing and be held there till first morning light, then burned off. Now, the good dreams were caught, and knowing their way to the hole in the centre, would filter down into the feathers and be held there, only to return another night, to be dreamed.

Over de native artist : My name is Melanie and I am an artist from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. I use natural resources in many of my pieces to celebrate our mother the earth. My mediums include silversmithing, etching, copper work, and weaving. I use many mediums as I’ve always enjoyed exploring new art forms. I have everything from dreamcatchers to rattles and silver jewelry – all handmade by me. I also work with the wampum shell from time to time. It is a beautiful medium with such a rich and important history.
